Damned Christmas Commercials!!

Already! Not even Thanksgiving and they’re already showing damned Christmas Commercials. Not only that, but the first one I saw (several days ago) was by those Male Enhancement people. Damn! What happened to definite Holiday times? I hate Christmas commercials anyway; but to get them well before Thanksgiving. Pricks!

There’s just not much going on lately. Got out to the property the other day to make sure my drainage is doing okay this year and my roads not washing away. It is and it’s not. Great! We did get a LOT of rain this past week with more on the way. Good. I hope we get most of the wet weather over and done with early this year. I don’t mind the cold as much as the wet-cold. Brrr. And we need more clear nights so I can use my new Telescope more often.

Been trying to learn that Fruity Loops program. I like it! Course, I know next to nothing about ’making music’ and notes and stuff. But I know what sounds good to me. It’s kind of fun just messing around with making different sounds and learning what the program will do. Does a lot more than that Magix Music Maker (which I still like) but you have to (should) know more about music.

Will probably be making my years supply of chili this Thursday. SWMBO kinda sorta entered me in the church’s chili contest this coming Friday so I might as well do the years worth. Ought to be fun!

Anywho, that’s it from OlallaLand.

Like Everyone Else In America…

We spent most of the day paying attention to the elections. Barack Obama will be the first Black President of the United States. Wow! I really never thought that would happen during my lifetime (nor a woman President) and I’m glad for him. I hope things work out well for him and US! But I’m kind of scared also. I just know there’s a Redneck with a rifle out there that is already making plans; and wether he (the Redneck) succeeds or not the aftermath will tear this country apart. So we’re loading up our 72 hour kits and have plans to retreat to our property for the duration of the riots that will invariably happen. Don’t get me wrong: I don’t wish harm to Obama (or anyone else). I sincerely hope he has a great Presidency (even if I don’t believe in Campaign Promises: Too much like New Year’s Resolutions for me). Just, be careful, Man.

CNN (well, ALL the news programs) really bugged me though. The polls on the West Coast were still hours from closing when they said Obama won. If I were standing in line to vote (somewhere on the West Coast) and I heard that I’d be sorely tempted to say "Fuck It!" and go home. If I Were In Charge I wouldn’t allow the News Programs to do what they did until all the polls were closed. So it’s probably a good thing I’m not in charge!

I’m so glad it’s all over though. Like with Christmas commercials I was pretty tired of all the hype (and attacks) of the political process. The Washington Governors race is still up in the air. So close that I’m thinking another recount will be called for. Probably by our present Govenor. Again.

Weatherman is predicting we’ll get 3-9 inches of rain over the next couple of days. We’re battening down the hatches even though I always take what the weather person says with a grain of salt. Most times they come out with stuff like this it doesn’t happen. At least not around here. You’d think that, weather wise, Seattle and Olalla would be almost n the same part of the world what with being only 20 miles apart and all.

Went to the property yesterday but forgot my camera at home. Bummer. There were some great clouds I’d have like to have gotten pictures of and the Olympics had a pretty good dusting of snow that would have been great to video. Ah well.

Wish I had some ’extra’ money. Circuit City is having their liquidation sale…

Really looking forward to the new Star Trek movie! Saw a teaser of the new ’old’ Enterprise and it was killer!

My first cd recorder was an external that was about as big as a 90’s vcr, recorded at 1 speed (which took about an hour per cd) and you absolutely could not do anything else while burning or you’d wind up with an expensive coaster. I seem to remember it costing around $300. The only reason I was able to afford it was I had sold 100 copies of a Medical Tickler Management System I wrote to the US Navy for evaluation and made enough to buy the thing. (The Navy never did contact me about buying more. Bummer!) :-P

An Oldie But Still Meaningful.

Let’s face it — English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat.

We find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese?

If teachers taught, why don’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

Why do people recite at a play and play at a recital? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and wise guy are opposites? How can overlook and oversee be opposites, while quite a lot and quite a few are alike? How can the weather be hot as hell one day and cold as hell another?

Have you ever seen a horseful carriage or a strapful gown? Met a sung hero or experienced requited love? Have you ever run into someone who was combobulated, gruntled, ruly or peccable? And where are all those people who ARE spring chickens or who would actually hurt a fly?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm clock goes off by going on. And don’t even get me started on “take a dump!”

When the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. And why, when I wind up my watch, I start it, but when I wind up this commentary, I end it?

Forgot to mention that the day I took Phillip & Matthew to the property to cut some wood (last Wednesday) we were cutting wood in the clearing and this HUGE Doe came trotting across the flat space for the house and up the trail towards the back of the property. Was cool!
