Jack Ryan-Shadow Recruit (2014)

Personally, I’d like to see them take an Actor, like Chris Pine, and do the whole Jack Ryan story, in order, and by the book as close as possible. That would allow the actor to grow older along with the character, bring some linearity to the story, and maybe give us Clancy fans a sense of continuity. “Red Star Rising” would make a good movie also. Especially if they made it in the original Klingon!

Not much going on. It’s really early but I’m already starting to get ready to hit the road for my appointment in Olympia. CPAP follow-up. CPAP machine is already packed and ready to go and I’m about to step into the shower. (I’m too old to jump into the shower; would probably slip and break my fool neck!)

I’m back. The CPAP Guy switched me over to a full mask. Had a lot of places on the graphs he was looking at where I had leakage (too much leakage) and spent a lot of time awake adjusting the nose pillows. So I’m on the face mask now. Ought to help.

One thing on the graphs was I’ve gone from stopping breathing 8 times a night to once in the past week. And that was last night (which was a bad night for sleeping). That’s cool! I like breathing. (But I’m dead dog beat today. I mean, I am beat!)

Windy. Raining.

Fairly laid back Sunday. Did mount SWMBO’s TV/monitor to the wall above her desk. Did manage to get all my usual chores done. Straightened up my office/shack. (Though it still looks cluttered.) Washing all the silverware and stuff we bought for the Caravan before putting it all out there.

Haven’t installed Linux yet. Busy doing other things! Once the Handbrake Queue gets done I’m going to do it and get started on switching over completely.

Raining. Stuck inside. Wanted to move my 2-meter antenna but don’t feel like getting soaked to do it. Must be getting old. Windy out there too! And we just had a downpour to be in the record books! Wow!

MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net (The Highly Informal Version) went well tonight. Nine check-ins. Everyone has standing water in their yards and a couple have even lost power for awhile from the wind.

Anywho, that’s it for tonight. Just not much going on and I’ve got to finish folding the laundry before hitting the rack.

MCARC Meeting Was Okay

Except they voted me in as President for the next year. There’s really not a lot to do as President, except officiate at the meetings, and just “be” if needed. I think it’ll be fun. No big changes expected or planned.

Rest of the day was the usual. My lovely young bride of almost 30 years took me to walk the mall, we ate at Red Robin, stopped at Wal-Mart and bought some stuff for the Caravan, and made our usual stop at Safeway on the way home. Picked up Doctor Who Complete First Series (9th Doctor) for $20.

And we’re home just chilling. Ripping the new Doctor Who.  About to hit the rack.

Damn! I Hate Windows Sometimes!

Yesterday morning I got up to find my computer not doing anything. Rebooted. It would get to the Windows Logo and freeze. Spent all day running that (useless POS) Repair thingie. Freakin’ Chkdsk ran for four hours! Restore ran another 2 hours. It just didn’t work.

I'm From Windows And I'm Here To Help

So, I booted into a Linux Mint disc and moved everything (I thought) I wanted to save over to one of the other drives. (Missed all my Thunderbird settings thinking they were already running from my “Data” disc. Goodbye extensive Calendar & Contacts!) That took a couple of hours.

Then I reinstalled Windows 7. Split the disc this time so I can install Linux for a dual boot. (Just as soon as I find I can do everything I want fairly easily in Linux, Windows will be a thing of the past.) Been reinstalling all the programs I normally use since getting up this morning. Phew!

  • Firefox & Thunderbird
  • VLC Media Player & WinAmp
  • Bullzip PDF Printer
  • Irfanview, MakeMKV & Handbrake
  • LibreOffice Suite & Windows Live Writer
  • S10 Password Vault
  • GNUCash & GIMP
  • All my board & video drivers
  • Microsoft ICE
  • Goldwave & Ashampoo
  • Microsoft Money

Just to name a few! Lots more to go. Then there’s setting everything up, rebuilding my Contacts, and all the damned rebooting because I “installed” something in Windows.

Not much else went on today. Woke up with a minor headache and didn’t feel like doing much anyway. Think it’s the Wx changing more than anything else. MCARC meeting tomorrow so I’ll have to get up, and out, early.
