NICE Wx Day! For Me!

SWMBO didn’t really like it; but she doesn’t like hot weather. Heck, it only got up to 83 degrees (28C) so I don’t know what’s she’s bitchin’ about! Smile I got out and did more work on the garden beds. Pounded in the fence posts and put the upper layer of that orange snow fencing we use to keep the deer out of the garden. It was NICE outside!!!! Hope this wx holds this way for a few more days…

Other than that not really much going on. Our son made spaghetti for dinner; he’s canning the rest of his sauce and it’s taking much longer than he figured it would. But he’s hanging in there and getting it done. (Personally, I think his spaghetti sauce needs more onions and some sliced black olives, but who am I to say. (Just the main cook is all!))

Playing with X-Plane 10 demo. I like it. Scenery for my area is pretty accurate. I’d buy the full program but have to save up for it. Ah well. I’ll enjoy it just as much in 3 or 4 (or 6) months as I would if I got it tomorrow. (I also have X-Plane, Absolute RC Helo & Absolute RC Plane on my Nexus 7. Lots to do on the pot!)

MCARC 2-meter Chat Net @ 1930 tonight. Wonder how many people will check in. When the Wx is nice like this most everyone will be out doing things. That’s what you do when you live in the Wet Northwest.

Well, it’s later. No net tonight. No one could hear me when I transmitted. Guess my antenna isn’t wet enough. I’m going to have to take it down and put that other lead wire on it. Maybe better coax will work…

Almost A Nice Day Out…

Sunny. Not really warm or anything; but sunny. Nice enough out for me to get off my lazy old-guy ass and change out the ignition switch on the Digger.

Took about 30 minutes cause the old ignition switch and the new switch are completely different on the ends. I got it figured out and didn’t burn the Digger up when I reconnected the battery; so that’s good. Started up and ran fine!

Running WinXP in Linux Mint 14 on my Win7 Machine

Spent the rest of the day on laundry and trying to get all the pictures I’ve scanned organized into the proper directories and somewhat in order. So far have most of my Navy Career done but still have a lot (LOT!) to do. Wondering if I should keep all the naked pictures of my Ex- or not. Smile (Just kidding! I’ll keep them!)

MCARC 2-meter net went well tonight. Had 9 check-ins and most everyone came through pretty good. Heck, if I get much more experience at this I’ll have to find a job as a DJ somewhere!

Calico Ghost Town in California

Right now I’m watching “The Avengers” and just waiting until it’s late enough to just go lay down and read until I fall asleep. I don’t know what it is, but, lately I’ve had the urge to read more than anything else. Since 01 Jan I think I’ve read 17 books. I love to read! Grew up reading. Mom swore I started reading 1st grade books when I was three. (Sometimes I even like to Study!) Decided that when I die, I want to go to Pern.

Kinda missing my kids right now too. All of them are adults but none have the balls to defy their mother and get back in contact with me. Ah well. That’s another long story for another day.

As You Can Probably Tell…

I’ve changed my site a bit. Been “playing” with Drupal and WordPress, found this theme, liked it, so I installed and activated it for this site. Thinking of completely doing away with my “regular” site and just going with this blog as my main site. Thinking on it… Would save space on my server and I wouldn’t have so many sites to keep updated. Not that I update regularly. Smile

Y’all let me know what you think of the new theme. I’ll still be playing with it for awhile but eventually it’ll settle down to how I want it to work…

Man, I’ve been busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest!

Completely re-ripped our cd’s to .flac format. That’s a couple of hundred cd’s that now take up way too much space on my hard drive. And I still have to convert it all back to .mp3 format for our phones!

Been selectively re-ripping our dvd’s/Blu Ray’s to .mp4 (HD) format. Getting much better video quality in just about the same file size as the .avi files. MAY just re-rip all our dvd’s to .mp4 format. (Only the blu ray’s will do .mp4 (HD) format.)

STILL laying flooring in the mother-in-law apartment! Have less than half of the last bedroom to lay. Then it’s paint and re-install the trim, lock the toilet down, clean the place up and we’re finished! Anyone need to rent a 1000 sq ft “apartment” for only $750 a month?

Our son has occupied the RV. Don’t get me started!

Radio stuff is going okay. Spend more time listening in than talking but it’s still fun. Finally got my laptop to consistently connect to the radio. Had some antenna troubles the other day and wound up taking my 2-meter antenna down (in the rain), rebuilding it and putting it back up (in the rain). Works great (again).

Speaking of rain: it finally did start to rain. Then rained for several days. Sometimes down poured. We need it but, damn! Not all at once! It has controlled the various fires in Western Washington but, damn! Not boding well for the coming winter…

The Garden has finally given up it’s last for the year. We had a great crop of peas, beans and maters. Still have a ton of green maters on the vine even though we picked 20 lbs of maters day before yesterday. Have them in paper bags on the counter getting ripe. I canned a bunch (14 pints) yesterday that we picked a few days ago. Nice having sliced tomato’s for whatever in the fridge. Gotta remember to grow my own onions next year. If we let ourselves (and could afford it) we’d have the whole back yard filled with the raised-bed planters…

Like I said, spent some time trying to learn a program called Drupal. Was thinking of using it for the new website MC-ARC wants me to put up for the club. Too involved though. The guy who takes over as “webmaster” after me might find it hard to learn and keep up. I’ll probably just set up a WordPress blog and try to keep it looking about the same as it does now. That’d make it easier to import all the posts that have already been posted also.

NMARES is still a failing Ham Radio Club. I’ll probably kill our NMARES site and incorporate it into the MC-ARC site since we’re an ‘affiliated” club now. Would save NMARES $14 every quarter anyway. I’ll have to run it by the members. Those that show up, that is.

And that’s about it for now…

Busy Busy Busy Busy BUSY!!

When our renter’s house was finally finished and ready to move into; we helped her move. I noticed that under things were damp, got to looking at the floor and noticed it looked like water had seeped up between the tiles. Damn!

So, SWMBO and I have been slowly pulling up tile getting ready to seal it and lay new flooring. Hard work. Was doing each tile by hand with a heat gun and chisel; but that got tiring, so we rented a machine that was supposed to make pulling up the tile a lot easier. I say “supposed to” because it didn’t. Make it easier, that is. Instead of using my right shoulder to push the chisel to pull the tile up (after appropriately heating it up), that machine made me use my whole body (I mean from toes to neck) to pull up tile. Daymn!! And it really wasn’t that much faster.

So, it cost us $60 to go back to doing it by hand. But, the job is mostly done. Just have to pull up a couple more tiles in the bathroom, get all the little pieces of tile shoveled up, remove all the glue that’s left over almost 1000 sq ft, seal it, lay the new flooring and it’s done. Oh, gotta put the trim back after cleaning it up or repainting it. Then it’ll be done.

Ham stuff is still going on. Had our annual NMARES picnic at the waterfront park in Allyn, Wa a couple of weeks ago. Made a PSK31 contact with HA0ML in Hungary. Downloaded all my QSO cards from eQsl then uploaded them to the gallery. Get my laptop to actually connect to the radio about every other week for a few hours (just not sure what’s going on). Still updating the NMARES and MC-ARC websites. Been moving my antennas around and have much better output on both the 2-meter and Fan Dipole now. Finally got an adapter so I can hook my handheld to an antenna on my truck and go mobile on 2-meters. Now I need to get the “battery eliminator” so I can plug into the lighter.

Trying to keep up with Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest and all the other web sites I visit. Updated my web site after about 3 years of looking the same. Still looks almost like it did cause I like that look. Mostly just added buttons for folks to find me on FB, Twitter & Pinterest. The new gallery is working great and I’ve been trying to sort all the pictures I’ve scanned to upload them eventually. Have pretty much the barebones up already.

We still go out and water/weed the garden every day. Corn is really growing. SWMBO’s string beans, peas and cucumbers have REALLY grown this year. She even accidently got two beets to grow. The bright orange snow fence we put up is keeping the deer out even though it’s an eye-sore. Hey, whatever works!

And that’s about it. Add to all this the daily routine stuff: Dishes, laundry, cooking etc etc etc and it all adds up to fairly busy days. Then, the wx here has been particularly nice and I have take time just to be out in the sun for an hour or so when I can. Yes, the dog and I still like to take off all our clothes and head off into the woods on a nice day. Try to get THAT picture out of your mind!!!
