Turns Out I Be Pretty Boring

Well, what the Hell have I been up to? No idea. Hanging around the house waiting for it to get warm enough to go outside. Other than that, buttkiss. (Butkas?)

Last Saturday was “date day” of course. SWMBO took me to teriyaki chicken in Gig Harbor before making a stop of COSTCO. That’s always fun! We actually got out of there fairly inexpensively this time. If you don’t count the $50 I spent for two 64g SanDisc’s. More about those later …

Sunday was our usual Sunday. Mostly. I set up one of those cards with a version of Ubuntu that’ll work with the Raspberry Pi2. Spent most of the evening working on that. Got it working great except it won’t play video files. Seems to load them but will not play. Which means I can’t use one of these to swap out SWMBO’s laptop and make a bit more room on her desktop. But, I’ll keep playing with it. AND the Ubuntu installation too!

Yesterday (Sunday) it was also dark cloudy and rather cool all damned day too. Sucked. You could NOT tell it’s the middle of July around here! Our garden is freezing it’s ass off!

Today though, Monday, it was sunny and about 80 degrees today. Go figure. So me and the Dog spent a lot of time outside. Repositioned my longwire dipole antenna and got it about 10 feet higher. Doesn’t seem to work any better; but it’s higher. (My Tuner is messed up too. Won’t make good contacts when tuning. Makes that staticy noise.)

Also installed fldigi and am learning that. Works great on my multi-band fan dipole that I made but haven’t really seen any signals to test Rx.  Will keep playing with that too.

Ordered that Panasonic G7 and it should be here sometime between 2-10 Aug. Have no idea why it takes so long; but that’s just the way it is.

Watching “Great Earthquakes of the Pacific Northwest” lecture on YouTube.

One Would Think I Was Busy Or Something

But, one would be kind of, well, not wrong, but not right either.

Last Saturday was the MCARC meeting. Went well. Only six of us showed up though so no real Club decisions were made. But it went a lot better than meetings with a lot of folks too.

Then, of course, was Date Day with the love-of-my-life. We took it easy at Burger King this time. Stopped at Jo Ann’s for about an hour or so. I perused the dollar store (spent $16. On Dollar stuff). Our usual stop at Walmart and home.

Sunday was fairly normal. Laundry and my other usual chores. Mowed the back yard and the path (again!). Other than that: not much. X-Plane for awhile if I remember right.

Monday was overcast and way colder than the previous days. Sucked! Took the Dog for several walks was about all I got accomplished.

Today it finally got sunny and warm for the afternoon. Made a bank run. Gas & milk at Safeway. Two dump runs! (One for plastics and one for trash.) All the regular chores. Just chillin’ and watching the Lady Gaga half-time show. (If you haven’t seen it: it was good! I’ve watched it several times now. And I’m not particularly a Gaga fan.)

Anywho, got busy and forgot all about this. WAY past bedtime.

Looking At New 4K Cameras

IngridSteeger01aMy present video camera is almost 10 years old, has real problems with the sound, and is just wearing out. Time to upgrade.

Got to looking at 4K video cameras on Amazon, YouTube, and other places. Then I realized: Except for doing some timelapse video’s of the Wx, I really don’t do a lot of video. I’m a “stills” kinda guy.

So, switched my focus to “regular” cameras (and if it does video also so much the better). So far I’m down to the Panasonic Lumix G7 or the Panasonic FZ1000. Both are kind of spendy for an old retired guy. But, with the places we go and things we do I really want a 4K camera.

The G7 bundle is $650. The FZ1000 bundle is $690. Watching YouTube video’s ain’t helping. Online reviews (@ 4k.com) are about the same. TheCameraStoreTV on YouTube has some pretty good reviews.

Think I’ll check my bank balance.

Why haven’t I looked at Canon? Had one of their Powershot cameras. About 2 weeks after the warranty expired it developed their “SD Card is unusuable” error. Canon had no plans to fix, repair, or replace. It’s been sitting on the shelf 2 years now. Will never buy anything Canon again.

Why don’t I continue to use my phone (Droid Maxx 2)? Oh, it does okay (for a phone). But I want to take some really good shots of the places we go. Yellowstone from a phone and Yellowstone from a G7/FZ1000 can be totally different.

Hmmm. The G7 has built in timelapse. One of the things I do. The FZ1000 seems to have slo-mo. Hmmm.

Anywho, nice days yesterday and today. Warm! Got out and worked up a sweat cleaning up the side yard yesterday. Moved a bunch of cement blocks around. Gardening stuff. Returned my friends box scraper and picked up some scrap wood he wanted to get rid of. Me and the Dog went on 6-7 walks around the back 40. Was nice.

Today is turning out to be about the same. Nice outside so I’m staying outside as much as possible. Wish I still had my digger! Instead I got out with the clipper thingies and trimmed back some of the blackberry bushes threatening to take over the yards. (They also try to grab me when I’m out mowing.)

We got to go pick SWMBO up tonight. Yay! She’s home and showered and getting her dinner. I have Tremor’s III on one monitor and thunderstorms on another. Think I might go lay down and read.

That’s kinda what I do.

All I Can Say Is

What a nice day! Got over 80 degrees and was sunny and just plain nice outside. So I spent as much time out there as I could. Got a lot of “Gardening” stuff done. Got a lot of just sitting out in the Sun done. Of course the Dog and I took off all our clothes and went for a walk through the back 40! (Duh!)

#Desiree

Other than that? Nada thing. Even the MCARC 2-meter Chat Net tonight was low key. Only  four of us checked in. (Which was more than checked in last Sunday evening.)

Oh, watered all the yards.

Exciting, I know. (I was there.)

Oh, yeah: SWMBO’s Son and his girl (and another friend) came over late last night and set off fireworks until 2300 or so. Watched some of the show. Was okay. First time we’ve had fireworks at the house in about 20 years.

And that’s it.
