They Love Old/Flat Dr. Pepper

The Hornets. Left a half full can of Dr. Pepper outside a couple of days and, today, there were at least 30 Hornets flying into and out of that can. ??? So, I grabbed one of the yellow hornet-catcher thingies we bought several months ago, that haven’t caught one Hornet, and put some of the flat Dr. Pepper in the cup thing at the bottom. About an hour later there are 10+ Hornet’s trapped in the thing. Who knew! So I put flat Dr. Pepper in the other yellow Hornet-Capture things and we’ll see.

Not much else going on. Mythbuster’s Marathon. Watering. Picking ripe cherry tomato’s. Nice outside so I’m spending a lot of time outside. Laundry.

SWMBO got home from church and went into her room to study (she has to get a certain amount of CEU’s(?) every year), so I pulled her car into the driveway and washed it. It needed it! She probably won’t notice it until she’s on her way to work tomorrow. Cool!

I also cooked dinner: Fried Shrimp, Wild Rice (mix), and Baby Lima Beans. Yummy! It was good if I do say so myself.

As you can probably tell; spent a couple of hours in X-Plane 10. Used my Steam account and downloaded it to Linux. That took only 14 hours this time! Works Lots Better Than It Ever Did In Windows 7. I also found a screen/window video capture program called Kazam that works as good as Fraps in Windows. Cool!

MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net (the highly informal version) went well. Only had 3 check-ins at first. But wound up with 9 total. That was good. Everyone was scratchy to me, but I’m learning to live with it. NOT! Will probably move my antenna around, again, to see if I can get a better signal. The one repeater I really want to connect to …

Woke Up With A Sinus Headache

That slowly got worse until around 1500. Tried to become a migraine for awhile. Didn’t quite make it but still left me feeling “Blah” most of the day. So much so that I only briefly considered going to this year’s “Belfair Bites” downtown. I really just didn’t feel like it and I really wanted to go this year since I missed last year.

Picture I Took Going Into Seattle By Ferry

Other than that, just nothing going on. It’s lot’s cooler, cloudier, and windier outside today. Which is probably why I woke with a headache. SWMBO says she had some rain in Silverdale. Cool. Wish we’d get some over here. We really need it to rain a few days cause all the vegetation is drying out a bit too much. Got windy enough today for me to take down the Alpha Antenna and put it away. Kind of worried about my 2-meter antenna blowing over.

Did go for a walk around the back 40 and found a patch of black berries that are firm but sweet. Ate too many.

pc-aa1bLearning about “apt-get” in Linux. Nice way to install programs! Installed Flickr-Uploader and am trying it out. I’m sure collecting a lot of places online to store stuff! Dropbox, 2 Google+ accounts, 2 Outlook accounts, Flickr. An awful lot of my photo’s are duplicated “just in case.”

Well, Hey! We got some sprinkles. Cool. Heard the two guys that get out here every once in awhile and dogfight (really. Dogfight) out over the Tahuya Forest so I went out to watch them. It was sprinkling. We need it.

And that’s pretty much it again. Just “playing” in Linux and chillin’. Started playing with some of the pre-installed programs trying to figure out what to keep and what I’ll never use more than the one time. Looks like lots of those.

Well. It’s Monday. Again.

But at least it’s supposed to be a nice day. Not as hot. Which means I should get off my fat, old, ass and mow the lawns. Looks like a weed farm out there what with all the bright yellow flowers sticking up in the air! Probably need to start moving the rest of the cinder blocks to get them out of the way. Need to pull out the metal rods I use to hold the snow fence to keep the deer out. Should move the Caravan to get it out of the way.

But, I’m Retired and may or may not today.

So, I got out and mowed the front-lower, back, and actual front yards. Finished off the laundry I didn’t get completed yesterday. Washed my truck. Cleaned up the kitchen and finished cleaning the BBQ from the pork chops the other night. All my usual chores are done. I gotta quit drinking coffee in the mornings!

doc2

Tracked down, downloaded, and installed MoneyManagerEX for Linux (works great and that means another Windows program I can switch to Linux).

Got up to only about a humid 80 degrees today. Which has most everyone up here complaining. They aren’t used to the heat; and they’re really not used to high humidity. Wx Lady on Channel 13 seemed pretty excited about it though. (Or the studio was a lot cooler!)

And, that’s it for another night. Just not a lot goes on around here. Getting this Linux to working. Getting the Windows 7 VM to working with the hopes of replacing it. Listening to the repeaters. Getting things done. Just your average Joe …

I Feel A Headache Coming On

I do. Haven’t had one in awhile so it is about time. But I still don’t like them. Can’t figure out what’s bringing this one on either. Wx isn’t changing to cold and wet. Haven’t eaten any trigger foods that I can remember. Oh, shit. My Ex- must be thinking about me again! Her and that damned voodoo doll!

b3-2Think I’ll pull the Icom-208H out of the truck, bring it inside, hook it up, and sit here and program it. Gotta be more comfortable than bending into weird positions in the truck. That’ll also let me look up things I forgot to write down; like PL Codes! (Otherwise it was a beautiful list.)

The headache sorta came but was pretty much gong by 1300 or so. Must have been the heat that drove it out! Our thermometer on the deck read 105 degrees at 1300. Phew! I didn’t spend a lot of time outside but did manage to go for several walks around the back of the property. Did just sit outside for awhile earlier trying to decide if the headache was going to come on or not. It wouldn’t make up it’s mind.

Took the Icom-208H out of the truck and hooked it up in my room. Way Much Easier to program from a sitting position! Way Much Easier. I had to look up all the PL codes for the frequencies I wrote down but that really wasn’t a biggie. Sure getting to know the manual that came with the radio!

Also got off my ass and decided on Ubuntu Studio and installed that on my desktop computer. It appears to be working well. Had to learn how to update Grub so Windows would show up on the boot menu. Even learned how to make it boot into Windows automatically instead of booting into Linux. That’s a good thing for now.

unnamed--ace2b0e26e

So I spent a couple of hours installing stuff in Linux. Ubuntu Studio already has a bunch of programs installed for the things I usually do with my computer; I just had to add other programs to do other things. Like a program to post to my blogs and Thunderbird. I’m going to try to use the Linux equivalents of the programs I use in Windows to do what I do.

And that’s pretty much it. SWMBO made it home safe and has had dinner. We’re settling into our daily routine and it’s about bedtime for this old guy.
