I Been Busy! Really!

Going out to the property and pushing over trees and stacking them. Haven’t too many left to do and I’m done! Cool!

Last:

Tuesday & Wednesday: Spent most of the days out at the property moving logs from the clearing down to the bottom of the hill. Time consuming as my digger can drag only so much..Wednesday SWMBO went in to her office as usual.

Thursday: More of the same. Pushed over a couple more trees and got them to the clearing and stacked.

Do my days seem pretty much SSDD? I know I post "Spent the day pushing over trees" a lot but you gotta realize that I have a MINI-excavator and it can take over an hour (or more) to dig out one side of a tree (especially if it’s a fairly good size), push it over, get the rootball completely dug up and pulling it up to the clearing and stacked. Most times the trees are heavy enough that I have to back my digger up 6-8 feet, grab somewhere on the root and pull the tree to me. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat until I get it to where I’m going to stack it. That can take awhile!

Friday: SWMBO and I went to the theater in Gig Harbor for the 1030 showing of "The Dark Knight." Too bad it started at 1000! Damn! So we went to the bookstore in that shopping complex and a "foo-foo" Pizza place. Pizza tasted okay BUT… It was too expensive for what we got. Got home and then it was back out to the property for me.

Saturday: Was more of the same. About the only thing I can say is nearly every day was DAMN FINE HOT & SUNNY!!! I really enjoyed it! You should hear the people up here bitch about the "heat wave." You’d think God was purposely trying to melt them into little puddles or something.

Today: Pretty much more of the same for me. Didn’t go to church as they’re having conference and SWMBO would have had to sit with the Choir anyway. So I went on out to the property and got to work. SWMBO was supposed to be there about 1400 with the makings for dinner. She showed about 1500 or so. Grilled us steaks! They was good! Heard some thunder (and thought I saw a flash of lightning once) and it got real windy (and I got sprinkled on a couple of times) but it was still nice up there. Especially with SWMBO there!

Yesterday & today there were a couple of old looking planes up dogfighting with each other somewhat over the property. But not shooting bullets, of course. But it was kind of neat watching them zoom around trying to get on each other’s tails. Saw a formation of military jets go by also.

There’s just not much going on, folks. I’m so busy trying to get as much done ’pre-construction’ at the property that I’m not doing much of anything else. Even ’housework’ gets put on the back burner. In the evenings I ’play’ on my computer and listen to the tv or convert videos and listen to the tv until around bedtime. Then I read an hour or so and go to sleep and repeat the whole thing the next day. Not exciting to the vast majority of y’all, I know. But that is real life.

Ought To Get Caught Up!

Last Saturday I went to the 1000-1400 session of the USS Turner Joy (DD-951) Reunion aboard the TJ. Was okay. Lots of "older" guys there from all over the country. Most of them seemed like decent people. Was nice walking around the ship. That smell of tile, oil and whatever hits you in the face when you step inside and it’s like you’re still stationed aboard. Flashes you back instantly.

During the meeting they were brainstorming on how to get move visitors aboard and one of the guys, that works on the USS Midway (I think) down in San Diego, mentioned those wireless headsets and the canned talks given throughout their ship. I mentioned that I had a lot of crappy old video from the last Westpac and they ought to put up a big screen tv and show (most of) that video I took. Somehow I volunteered putting something together. Then somehow I wound up with several old TJ cruise books to scan and do something with. That’ll teach me. The TJ’s in dire financial shape. I’m thinking of putting a "Donate" button for the ship on my sites and starting a paypal account just for that. Any suggestions out there?

Sunday: Had a short meeting with the TJ crowd and got some more pictures to scan. I think this project will be fun. Afterwards I went on out to the property and pushed over some more trees. Sunday evening I spent working on our New Home Site.

Today: Back out to the property. This time I started cutting all the trees I’ve pushed over into lengths and neatly stacking them off to the side of the clearing. Tomorrow I’ll finish up the pile I have left plus the couple I have to move to the pile and start hauling them down the hill.

I’d KILL For 6 Straight Hours Of Sleep!

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday was out at the property moving trees & dirt around trying to get ready to rent a big dozer to really move some dirt. Damn Fine Days out there! Nice and Hot and Nice! (What can I say? I’m a hot weather person!)

Evenings I’ve been "playing" on the computer. Sometimes making new music for a new video. Scanning pictures. Trying to make my web sites look & work better. Checking to see how my associates stuff is doing and how to make those more noticeable. Messing around. Tried to make a virtual drive for OS2 Warp 3 & 4. Damned hard time even making the installation floppies (I use floppies about once a year. Or less. And I have to use a USB floppy cause my computer doesn’t have one installed.) then the thing won’t ’boot’ from them. Would have been nice to play with.

Had an appointment with the Architect today at noon. He does nice work. He even has good ideas about things! We really didn’t change much. Added a door here. Shaped the roof there. Figured out what kind of windows will go where. You know, small stuff. Another couple of weeks and we’ll be ready to go over electrical & Plumbing.

Stopped down the hill from the Architect at a house our (probable) future Contractor, Mark Beard, is building. An ICF house. Walked around a bit checking things out. Looks nice. BIG place. Three stories of ICF construction.

Then SWMBO took me to breakfast at El Sombrero’s in Port Orchard. Great food!

And that’s about it. Battlestar Galactica isn’t coming on tonight and probably won’t until next April or so. Damned Sci-Fi Channel! So it looks like my tv will stay on the History Channel until about bedtime. (Dogfights, Dogfights, Moden Marvels: Freight Trains & Modern Marvels: Chocolate.) Maybe I’ll make some brownies tonight…

Busy Busy Busy!

And tired! But let me tell you what I’ve been up to…

Thursday: Rented a wood splitter at Premiere Rentals in Port Orchard about 1100 and got it home. Bob & Marge (friends from across the street) came up and helped me split and stack about 1.5 cords of wood. Poor Marge stacked the wood a bit off kilter and a couple of rows of wood fell over on her. She was bruised but okay! After doing my wood we took the splitter to their house and split about 1/2 a cord of wood before we just plain gave up for the night. You talk about Sore & Tired!

Friday: Got up at 1630 and over to Bob & Marge’s by 0730. We split a couple of cords of wood between 0730 & 1000 when I had to load the splitter into the back of my truck to get it back to Premiere Rentals before 1100. Even SWMBO came down to help! After dropping the splitter off (and taking a walk-around of a dozer they have for rent) SWMBO and I went out for breakfast at the FHP in Port Orchard. Made our regular Albertson’s stop on the way home. Was going to go to the property and figure out how I’d utilize that dozer if I rented it but wound up staying home and getting some things done that I’ve been meaning to do. Damned Sci-Fi Channel STILL hasn’t shown the next episode of Battlestar Galactica! It’s only been 5 or 6 weeks so far. What the Hell is wrong with them?

Saturday: Did go out to the property and moved some brush into a burn pile and stacked the rest of the trees that have been cut to length for selling. That took most of the day. Was nice out there once the clouds burned off! Joined Google’s Adsense program and played with getting that working.

Today: First Sunday of the month so I didn’t go to church. Got out to the property by noon and took almost 4 hours moving the cut trees to the bottom of the hill and stacking them there. My digger moves at two speeds: slow and twice as fast as slow. Which is still slow. Damned fine day once the clouds pretty much burned off. I like it up there!

Just fixing up my stanking.net (Our New Home) site trying to make it prettier. Checked SWMBO’s laptop out as to why the sound isn’t working (can you say FN & Speaker buttons somehow got pressed at the same time?). Listening to Dirty Jobs: Jobs That Bite and browsing the forums at DVDVideoSoft. I’m sure they’re getting to where they hate seeing me log on!

Just want to say that the employees at Premiere Rentals in Port Orchard have always been helpful and courteous when I’ve done business with them.
