Still Raining Out. Better Than Raining In.

Sometimes my Dad, born in the 30’s and having an entirely different outlook on life and man/woman relationships, would sometimes see a “sweet young thing” walking along and casually mention how “I don’t know much about girls but I’d suck her dick.” He Could NOT say that nowadays cause you just don’t know anymore. There’d be a good possibility he’d have to fess up or shut up. Poor guy.

Date Day with SWMBO. Took her to breakfast at Family Pancake House in Port Orchard. Still love being out with her even after 35 years! Then WinCoi! Woo Woo!

We were out shopping a couple of years ago and saw this package and I thought “That package pretty much sums up America right now.” Is it 18 pieces or 19 pieces? Was the employee too lazy, or unable, to count how many pieces were included? Why didn’t the “boss” notice and call them on it? What kind of business hires people that can’t count then prints labels to accommodate them? If I bought it and found only 18 pieces when I opened it, would I feel cheated? Shouldn’t I feel I got my moneys worth since I bought it knowing there may be only 18 pieces in it?

Yet, someone will buy it and complain if there was only 18 pieces in it. Which is what is wrong. You can explain until you’re blue in the face “how things are” and show them in black and white and they’ll still go along with “what should be” and complain when it doesn’t meet their expectations. “Well, there should have been 19!” No, there should have been 18 OR 19. Read The Damned Sign. Put on your big girl panties and get on with your life.

We’re Getting Slammed Today!

With rain. It’s coming down in buckets! Dog and I got soaked on our walk this morning even wearing our poncho’s. Had to unplug my radio’s cause we had some fairly close lightning (after setting up my camera, of course). Love thunder!

Missed my Doc appointment yesterday. Was feeling kind of funky with a minor case of the runs just before leaving the house. Figured I’d tough my way through it. Uh Uh. By the time I hit town (3 miles) I was trying not to throw up in the truck. So I called them and left a message as to what was happening and turned around for home.

Spent the next 6 hours laying on my bathroom floor (for QUICK access). Felt like Food Poisoning (again!) but not quite as severe as I’ve had. Still not pleasant. I think I’m allergic to something or have other issues. I seem to get “Food Poisoning” often. Think I’ll ask my regular Doc about it next time I see him.

Dinner Club Has Met!

Still not feeling 100% but WAY better than last night. Still don’t trust a fart though.

With the downpour going on outside I’m getting some things done inside that I’ve been meaning to do; laundry, dishes, checking my eye lids for light leaks being the most important chore of the day.

2019-04-14 21.54.21Turns out, I can run a raspberry Pi from one of those little battery packs (used to recharge your phone) for a couple of hours (depending on what I DO with the thing). If I use another battery pack for the 7” screen it should be runnable anywhere in the field in emergencies. But that leaves me still having to power one of my radios. Hmmm. Motorcycle battery for all?

My experience of keeping a bucket by my bed last night for “just in case” reminded me of the Chamber Pots we used to use on my Grandparent’s farm way back when. Anyone else remember those? They (Grandparents) were sharecroppers that lived in a “house” that had one bedroom, kitchen, living room and an outhouse (not inside. Outside. Outhouse.). So, if one had to “do their thing” in the middle of the night, well, chamber pot. One has truly not experienced life without having walked one’s chamber pot to the outhouse to empty it the next morning.

The other thing I remember about their place was you washed in a big tin tub in the middle of the kitchen with water you pumped yourself at the sink and (maybe) heated on the stove.. When the girls bathed we couldn’t go near the kitchen; but when the guys bathed it was open highway y’all come on in!

Me Thinks Summer, She Be Over. Sux!

I’ve had this little blu-tooth keyboard sitting around here for several  years. Decided to see if  it’ll work with this new Windows mini-computer.  It  does. Have  to be really  careful in  my typing cause it’ll do each key press more than once if I get too heavy fingered.

I Love Making Panorama's

SSDD day. Went through a “prodrome” last night and just now my head feels like it wants to hurt. And I’m in a bad “post-headache” funk. Which is normal. I’m grateful that I get the prodrome  but haven’t been getting the migraine. Those hurt! But I still get the after-funk  though.

I have a couple of external drives that are trying to give me different errors. So I’m setting up a Raspberry Pi to run ‘testdisk’ on them just to check out the surfaces. And, who knows, it may find something I can fix. (So far, it’s taken 2 days to copy my movies backup directory to one of my hd’s on my desktop. Linux does NOT copy things quickly even using grsync.)

That felt good! Fairly nice day so I got out and mowed. Everything. Front yard. Upper front yard. Lower front yard. Backyard. Most of the trail we walk around the property on (0.21 miles round-trip!) Thank goodness for rider mowers!

So, started this yesterday but forgot to finish and post. Figures.

Our Day on 2020-09-23_10-51-40

Started raining today (or late last night), which we really need here in western WaRshington, but, the Dog doesn’t like having to wear his raincoat thingie for our morning walk. Which is too bad. Wear it or stay home.. Which is another concept (along with “stay with me”) he has problems with. Selective understanding, I think.

Anywho: appointment with the cardiologist at 1530 today. His office hasn’t called and told me that “maybe you want to bring SWMBO along with you” so the news can’t be too bad. We’ll see. He’ll say something like “You’re Old, Fat, Out of shape, and Grumpy, Mr. King. None of that is good for your heart. Which is in surprisingly good shape for someone who smoked 40 years.”

Ok. It’s About Damned Time I Posted Again.

acepcSo, I bought this ACEPC mini-computer. It’s about as square as a CD case and about 4 high in thickness. (Official name is: ACEPC Mini PC Intel Celeron J3455,4K HD Graphics Windows 10 Pro Mini Computer,4GB DDR3/64GB eMMC,Gigabit Ethernet,Dual Band Wi-Fi,Bluetooth 4.2) And even though it’s Windows 10, it’s working just fine. Can’t believe how good it works for being so small!

I got it hanging on the wall to unclutter my desktop some. It’s going to be my “radio” computer because it’ll run “Ham Radio Deluxe” (the free version cause the commercial version is shit). Already installed, hooked up to my yaesu 857d, and working just fine.

It’s also going to be the machine I post from since it runs Open Live Writer; which I haven’t been able to get working properly in Linux (any flavor). So, when I get back into my groove and back to posting more y’all will be able to blame Windows 10 on this mini-pc.

Haven’t posted cause, well, I just haven’t. COVID still has everyone in virtual lockdown (but a lot of us, except for masks, are just going about our lives). SWMBO and I still get out for our Friday date (Red Lobster today!). Trips to Walmart or WinCo and pretty much anywhere else we “need” to go. Even Home Depot! But I don’t post cause I just don’t feel like it. Could be the depression kicking in; or it could be, I don’t know.

2019-05-10 08.21.30And you don’t want to get me started on Masks! (You really don’t.)

Got a ladder rack for my truck and modified it to sit lower so I didn’t have to take a step stool along to put things on it. Nice looking but a bit noisy when driving. (Was noisy even before I “modified” it so that wasn’t the cause.) Now I’ll be able to carry my own stuff from Home Depot instead of paying the $100 delivery fee.

Finally had the colonoscopy a couple of weeks ago. My first. SWMBO was right when she said the prep was worse than the exam. That prep! Whew! Wasn’t sure it was going to work but everything cleared up about a half hour before we had to leave for my appointment. Guess it was okay cause they didn’t have me repeat it. They found and removed 7 polyps though, so I have to go back in 3 years. Bummer! (But better safe than sorry.) Whatever they used to knock me out worked good!

They also found my “roids” and referred me to a butt-Doc for that. He took one look and said “Oh, yeah. Those need to be removed.” But he’s having me see a Cardiologist first to be sure I’ll survive the surgery. (They’re bad enough for surgery instead of banding. Ugh.)

Everyone keeps asking me when I had my heart attack! I don’t remember having one. My regular Doc asked after a cardiogram. The Anesthesiologist for the colonoscopy asked before putting me under (something about E-Waves). And even the Butt-Doctor (senior moment. Oh, Proctologist!) asked about it. So, maybe going to the Cardiologist will be a good thing. (Or not.)

Otherwise, things are pretty much SSDD all around. Not accomplishing much around the house because of the twisted knee but it’s finally starting to get better. A Bit. Normal daily routine stuff takes up some time. Working on new computer’s, old computers, and playing on the radio eats us some other time. Taking care of SWMBO takes up a lot of time. (Sorta.)

Got kicked off Tumblr (hard to do, I know) so I’ve gone totally social media free. Haven’t used FB in a couple of months. Finally uninstalled Messenger (since it wouldn’t let me post anyway. Something about posting something against their rules; which is strange since I haven’t been of FB or Messenger in months) so I’m not spending hours a day dong that.

Reading more. Which is scary. Finished “Twilight Eyes” (again) and could NOT remember how it went. Rereading “Rendezvous With Rama” right now, which I’ve read at least 5 times since I was 15, and can NOT remember any specifics about it. That’s the scary part. The Good part is that all the books I have in my collection may be all “new” to me even though I grew up reading them.

Anywho, that’s probably more than anyone wanted to hear.
