Busy Busy Busy Busy!

Got up at my usual 0700 this AM. Woke SWMBO up around 0830 and had her take me to have an omelette that I didn’t have to cook myself (FPH). Stopped by Lowe’s and spent a good $70. Then went to our usual trip to Albertson’s and got some things we’ll need the coming week.

Got home and it was so nice I headed out to the property for awhile. Moved a bit of dirt. Splashed in the "mud hole" I made to cool off a bit. Read a bit and came on home.

House was empty. SWMBO had gotten a call from our Realtor to come on in and sign an addendum so we can get into the house this weekend. We have to fix some "problems" at the new place before the VA will sign off on it: missing switch covers, hanging lamps in the basement and the "door to nowhere" in the garage. Yeah, like anyone could walk through it. And paint, of course. After we wash all the walls to get the smoke smell off. I gotta rent scaffolding somewhere.

She actually saw me as we passed each other going in different directions. I just plain didn’t see her. She called me from the Realtors just as I walked in the door. They e-mailed me the form, I signed it, scanned it to a pdf file and e-mailed it back. Cool! I love computers!

Got word that our loan papers for the house went to the Escrow folks for us to sign. It seems as if its all going though. Cool! But we are going to be REALLY busy the next couple of weeks.

And I had to make a trip to Home Depot late this afternoon. Another $93 for things to fix the "problems" at the new house tomorrow.

Heard from a Niece of mine that I haven’t seen in 16-17 years. She contacted me through my guestbook. My brother Anthony’s daughter; Maisie. She’s got kids (which make me a Grand-Uncle) and doing well. Cool! Like I e-mailed her; I enjoy hearing from "Family" as long as they’re not asking me for money!

BTW, I probably owe Microsoft an apology(sp?). Found out I have a bad memory module (2 gig shows up as 1.25 gig) so I’ll probably get me another drive and reinstall Windows 7 for another try. And, yes, I’ve removed the bad memory module. Sheesh!

Well, Things Are Moving Along…

On the new house. Got a call from our Realtor late this afternoon and she said that the Appraisal came through “at value” so the loan should be going through. Cool. I gotta get out of this house!

Been checking around for phone and internet availability at the new address. AT&T can give me a phone, but no internet. QWest has something called “broadband Phone” ($20/mo) but no Internet. Which sounds strange as “broadband” indicates “Internet.” Probably just the Tech in me… Still, I wonder about hooking in a modem and maybe getting internet. Guess it’s time SWMBO and I talked to neighbors to see what they’re doing. I’d hate to go back to dial up but will to check my mail. Which means I’d have to post via e-mail. Better get that set up just in case.

Windows 7: Finally gave up on it. Got the BSOD nineteen (19!) times last night installing software I usually use or using software I usually use. Crashed 5 times using Post2Blog! So, I got really tired of that, put my old drive in, booted up and installed the drivers for the new system and it has been working great. Except. There’s always an Except.

I’ve gotten the BSOD a couple of times using DVDFab to convert a dvd to an .mkv file when I have it output to the only SATA drive I have in this new system. I’m going to try having it output to the C: drive tonight and see if it does it again. If not, then the SATA drive may be going bad. Which means I’d have to move my data off it as I started using it as my data drive. Bummer. If I get the BSOD again I’ll take that drive out and see if it does it agian. And I’d have to get a new drive…

Not much else going on. SWMBO is starting to figure out about painting and stuff in the new house. Oh joy! If we get the okay to go in and paint then she has my Memorial Day weekend pretty much planned. Oh joy!

Windows 7 Ain’t Winning Any Friends Here!

Windows 7: Installed. Uninstalled. Re-Installed. I’ve managed to get the BSOD 9 times tonight just installing software that I usually use. Hell, even this program, Post2Blog, BSOD’d me. I’m ready to stick my old drive, with my Windows XP Pro, back in and just update the drivers for the new system. I’m beginning to think that that would be easier then getting Windows 7 working. I do like most of what I see in Windows 7; though so far it hasn’t been worth the hassle.

I’m so sore from the waist down! Spent the last two days packing boxes and moving them into the PODS thing we got for the move. I knew we had a lot of stuff, but not this much! Damn! We’re going to need the whole 4300+ sq ft of the new house just for our junk!

Weather has been the usual. Raining some. Sunshine some. It’s cooled down a lot from what we had just a couple of days ago. Sucks!

And that’s really it. Just checking in.

(Damn! BSOD’d on me trying to put a picture in!)

New Computer & Windows 7

My new computer came in yesterday and it took a couple of hours, and a trip to Motherboards, Etc for a cpu fan, for me to get it up and running. I probably could have had it working faster but I was taking my time and working on 3 (three!) computers at once. Finally got it done and plugged in and started up and it’s working great! Fast! Haven’t had a chance to use the 4 Gig of ram; but I will!

Then I installed the realease candidate of Windows 7 that I downloaded the other day. Installed fairly quickly. Looks good. Kinda vista-ish. But the most surprising thing is that I managed to get the blue screen of death only 5 times while installing programs I normally use. Not bad! Of course, I haven’t seen the BSOD with XP Pro in a long time. Installing Java was a bitch; but I finally got it working. Everything else seems to be working okay. Video looks great even without installing drivers for my videocard.

Now, moving all my data and userfiles from the old computer to the new is going to be a bitch. Just my old Outlook file is 1.8 Gig! Not to mention all the ‘little’ settings and passwords and stuff that need to be moved over. Crap. It may be days before I can check my mail other than online. Which I hate.

OTT, not much going on. House is a mess with boxes piled all over the place. We ordered one of those PODS things and it will be delivered Monday. I’ll start filling it immediately to get this stuff out of the way for other things.

It’s supposed to get up in the 70’s (possible low 80’s) today so I’m gonna waste time out at the property. Later!
