Thursday Night. Thursday Already?

So this must be Smallville. Cool show tonight. Ending was kind of far out there, but I’ll get used to it. I still think Clark needs to learn to fly!!!

Last couple of days have been kind of boring. Not heading out to the property cause gas is too expensive and the weather SUCKS! Not quite cold enough to force me to light a fire in the woodstove but way too cool, windy and wet to head out and get some dirt moving done. Driving me nuts!

So I been "straightening up around the house," if you know what I mean. (I miss Whose Line!) Moved an old not working tv into the back bed/storage room and took the back off it to see if I could see why it doesn’t work. It got zapped by a lightning strike on the grid last December. Replaced the main fuse (only fuse) I found but that doesn’t seem to be the problem. I’m a USN Retired HM computer geek dirt mover; not a tv repair man!

Put the mediaserver to work converting dvd’s to avi’s. It Is Slow! But it ain’t doing anything else so why not. Spent some time this afternoon removing unused drivers and programs so now it should work better. Hopefully. You never know with computers running Windows. Any version of Windows. ANY version of Windows…

Hey, is there a widescreen version of the original "War Of The Worlds" out there?

STATE OF AFFAIRS

A conversation between a Customer and Bank of America Bank:

This is the Bank of America, can I help you?

Customer: Yes, I want to cancel my account. I don’t want to do business with you any longer.

Bank: Why?

Customer: You’re giving credit to illegal immigrants and I don’t think it’s right. I’m taking my business elsewhere.

Bank: Well, Mr. Customer, we don’t want to see you do that, but we can’t stop you. I’ll help you close the account. What is your account number?

Customer: (gives account number)

Bank: For security purposes and for your protection, can you please give me the last four digits of your social security number?

Customer: No.

Bank: Mr. Customer, I need to verify your information, but in order to help you, I’ll need verification of who you are.

Customer: Why should I give you my social security number? The reason I’m closing my account is that your bank is issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants who don’t have social security numbers. You are targeting that audience and want their business. Let’s say I’m an illegal immigrant and you’ve given me a credit card. I have a question about it and call for assistance. You wouldn’t be asking me for a Social Security number, would you?

Bank: No sir, I wouldn’t.

Customer: Why not?

Bank: Because you would have pressed ’2’ to speak in Spanish. We don’t ask for that information when calling in on the Spanish line.

We Set A Record!

Saturday we had a small amount of snow. Sunday, just as I arrived home from church, it hailed like crazy when I got out of the truck. Monday woke up to a very light dusting of snow… Is Summer Never Going To Get Here?!?

We set a world record, for us, yesterday: Went to Albertson’s for some ginger & a lemon. Walked out with the ginger, lemon and bagels. We Got Out Of Albertson’s In Less Than 10 minutes and under $20! Wow! Then we stopped by COSTCO for dog biscuits & a case of those frappuccino drinks (they’re only $1.19/ea if you buy it by the case. $2.40 if you buy them down at the corner store.) We walked in, found the dog biscuits & Frappuccino’s, paid the bill and walked out. 10 minutes and less than $25. Wow. Double Wow! Next there’ll be GAS in SWMBO’s car when we’ve got someplace to be in 10 minutes but don’t get me started…

Haven’t been out to the property. Gas costs too much. Think I’ll have to get out there tomorrow though. We’re running out of wood to burn and I need to get some more. Need Gas. Need Fuel. Need 2-stroke engine oil. Savings of .03/gal at Safeway just doesn’t make it. It might be cheaper to go to electrical heating for the next couple of weeks. But what happens if it doesn’t get much warmer? It happens up here every once in a summer or so.

Set the MediaServer up to rip my dvd’s and convert them to divx files. Why should it just sit there doing nothing if we’re not actually watching something on it? Yeah, it may be only a 1.5ghz machine but it really does have all the time it needs to convert files…

Think I’ll Try Again!
Uh Oh! Again!?!

Snow? In April?

WeatherPersons have been predicting snow the last 3-4 days. Originally for Friday but that didn’t happen. Here at least. Woke up to reports of snow all over the place over Monroe way; but none here. It’s 1700 now and I still haven’t seen any snow here. Hail and it really looks like it wants to snow out there but no actual snow. Yet.

Catch up: Didn’t do much last Thursday. Gas costs too much to go out to the property every day now. Smallville was a bitch! Lex kills Lionel and his Secretary. Confrontation between Clark and Lex. Lana’s still out of it (step on in there Chloe!). Commercial for next weeks episode looked pretty good too!

Friday was our usual date night. Almost. Except we took the Missionaries to Pizza Buffet at FodGothers around noon. We took off from there about 1130 (I like being early to an appointment) but had a flat just before getting on the freeway. And of course it was cold and windy and I was sitting in the edge of the road changing the tire. But nobody hit me and I got it changed pretty quick. Dropped by Les Schwab and they replaced the tire free of charge. Cool! We don’t buy tires anywhere but from Les for this reason and they’ll fix a flat for free.

Battlestar Galactica was a bitch! Starbuck’s going nuts and a skin-job killed Callie. Cylon fighting Cylon! Cool! In some ways I’ll hate to see the end of this season but it really does have to end somewhere.

Today (Saturday) SWMBO took off for the Genealogy (as usual) and I suited up and went out to the property. Didn’t see any snow going there or coming back. Raindrops sure looked thick a couple of times though. I figure another degree drop in temperature would have turned it but it didn’t happen. Worked on the road a bit. Was nice and warm when the sun was out but the wind was CHILLY. Didn’t do too much though as I’m almost out of diesel and diesel is $4.47 a gallon right now. Damn! Guess from now on I’ll have to actually plan what I’m going to do when I go out there.

Came on home and have been watching OLD sci-fi movies (Catwomen of the Moon, Day The Sky Exploded, Day of the Triffids, etc) and fixing meatloaf for dinner. It’s smelling GOOD in here and I’m ready to eat. SWMBO isn’t home yet though; she was going to stop by Albertson’s and do some shopping on the way home. She should be in any minute…

@ 1723 if finally started to snow. Sort of. Oops. Stopped.

SWMBO got home, ate and drug me to Lowe’s to look at stovetops and ovens and stuff. COSTCO was closed. (Phew!)

What A Damn Crappy Ending!

But I guess it was supposed to be. Just watched "The Mist". Pretty good movie; until the ending. What a damn crappy ending! Seemed to follow along with the ’novella’ as I remember it; until the damn crappy ending. But it’s a keeper and goes into the "I’d be glad if it was the end of the world" folder. Damn crappy ending though. But now if I’m ever in a situation like that and anyone starts spouting "Religion" (with a capital R) I think I’ll take them out right there…

When was the last time I made an entry here? Hmmm. Let me go look. Damn! That long ago?!

Sunday was a crappy day. No, not really. It was a lot colder than last Saturday but I still managed to get out to the property and move some dirt around. What? You think anything else happens in my life? You’re delusional…

Monday was a pretty regular Monday. Cold and wet out. Cold in. We’re down to our last half dozen pieces of firewood. Need to get off my ass and go out to the property and cut some of that downed dry wood.

Tuesday was "housework catch-up day" around the King household. Dishes. Laundry. Blowing the dust out of my computer. Wireless is working like a charm. MediaServer is working like a charm. Still re-ripping Smallville to 720p format. Had to buy a new printer as my Canon Pixma finally died. Something in it snapped when I was trying to print a cd insert. Damn. It was only 5 or 6 years old too. Bought an HP Deskjet D4260 cause it was cheap. Does pretty good with inserts though…

Today, Wednesday, I finally did get off my lazy old man ass and got out to the property and cut a truckfull of wood. Burns real nice. Now if I can just get my old man legs to not hurt! :-P Sure is nice having that Digger to lift the logs for me to cut. Oh, almost got the Digger stuck down at the bottom of the property. Went off the road into a really SOFT spot and the front end sank so much I had to use the bucket to push myself up and out. Phew!
