May Be Offline A Few Days. Shortly.

Socially. Thinking of rooting my Nexus 7 to CyanogenMod cause I’m damned sick and tired of this latest Android (Lollipop?) slowing it down and crashing. Hell, I can’t click on any links when in Tumblr without Chrome (or whatever) crashing. Heaven forbid I should want to check Facebook or Google+. So, if I do this, I’ll probably be offline while getting my Nexus set up again. And I have a hard time believing the amount of “Apps” I’ve installed on this thing!

Turns out Google isn’t supporting my version of the Nexus 7, nor are they selling it, anymore. Updates to the OS may work. Probably not. Lot’s of people are pissed off about that too.  They’ll know how pissed I am about it the next time I need (want) to buy a tablet; it probably won’t be anything from Google. Hell, my HTC phone is four years old and it still works fine.

And I’m not sure about these latest Windows “updates” either. Seems after a couple of hours of watching a video, the picture starts to look “3D” (color separation) and, sometimes, the sound goes “tinny.” Drivers, probably. But it was working fine until the latest batch of updates. Why don’t people test this stuff before they just push it out to everyone?

Not really nice outside, but I got out and did some more whack-weeding anyway. Kinda sorta rained a bit on me while I was doing that. Did some work in the garden. Worked on my field mount for my 6btv antenna; trying to get ready for Field Day. Talked to NC7V down Vista, CA way on 20-meters for a few minutes.

Tried the CyanogenMod auto installer thingie. Didn’t work, of course. That means I have to do it manually. Which involves installing a lot of stuff on my computer and try to follow the directions on screen. Oh, Joy. Not tonight.

Rainy. Windy. Just Crappy Out.

With lightning warnings for Seattle proper. It was just wet over here. Needless to say I was stuck inside most of the day. So I won’t say it.

Did make a run to the drive-thru pharmacy at the Naval Hospital for my meds. Good for another 3 months now. Stopped by the Chevy Dealer to see if they have any ideas how to get rid of that old-gym-sock smell that comes from the air conditioner whenever I turn it on; they didn’t really. Spray an anti-mold into the air intake and hope. Otherwise just get used to it.

Not much else going on. Started a Doctor Who marathon but will probably quit it after this episode. Netflix came in today so I got movies to watch!

Night The World Exploded (1957) Super Computer

Oh, did stop and get my usual at the new Taco Bell on the way back from the Naval Hospital. Good stuff! Nice to have one in town. Finally. Now we just need a Burger King for those occasions (annually usually) that I get a craving for a Whopper.

I guess the MCARC 10-meter Tuesday Evening Chat Net went well. I could only hear 2 of the guys nice and clear and 1 kinda sorta. No idea who else was out there. Ah well. 10-meters has never been my strong suit locally anyway.

Not much else happening. It’s almost bedtime so I think I’ll take this old guy to bed and read for awhile. Although I could always watch another episode of the Doctor.

Ah. Our Modern Life.

Phone wanted to update a bunch of stuff, but didn’t have room because of all the other stuff I had on the internal storage (and extra memory card). So I spent almost an hour figuring out what I actually use, on the phone, and uninstalling those apps I just don’t really use (on the phone). Most of what I uninstalled I also have on my Nexus 7 and really only use them there. So I figure “Why have it in both places?”

Plus, if I get somewhere and really need an app, I can always reinstall it. Just don’t see that happening. Phone screen is really too small for X-Plane, SkyEye, and a couple of others. Mostly, just let me check my e-mail, calendar, and make a call if I need to. The only other thing about my phone is I purely hate those apps Google/HTC installed that won’t let me uninstall them. I rarely use Peep and never any of the games; so let me uninstall the damned things!

Not much else going on. Feeling kind of sore still so I’m going to skip bowling today. Sides, it’s supposed to get nice outside so I’ll probably just hang around the house anyway. Checked my e-mail. Got on the phone and refilled my meds. About to order some more e-juice from Mt. Baker Vapor. Bought PowerISO online. Thinking of ordering X-Plane but it’s kind of spendy. Sometimes I think places ought to sell things cheaper to us “Old” folks; we may die before the next update.

So, what did I do since I didn’t go bowling because I’m still feeling sore? Why, I got out the whack-weeder and whack-weeded what needed to be whacked-weeded. Only took 2 hours. Will look really good when I mow. Again. Damn, I’d have been better off going bowling.

It got up to 75 degrees today! Nice! My peas have sprouted! Nice! So I worked in the garden to get their climbing thingie set up. Just stayed outside as much as possible.

There Are Only Two Things I Don’t Like

And one of these days I’ll get it narrowed down to those two.

Just another Sunday so far. I did get off my fat lazy and make cheese-mater-mushroom omelets and peppered bacon for breakfast for my lovely young bride and myself. Was good. Now I’m getting my usual Sunday chores done and kinda sorta watching old sci-fi movies on YouTube. There’s some “wish we could get up to b-grade” movies there!

Really spent my day just “straightening things up on my computer” (which means farting around) and doing my usual Sunday stuff. A friend called with some questions about his radio (Bofeng) and that took all of 10 minutes.

SWMBO made her version of sauerbraten for dinner. Poured it over baked potato’s instead of noodles. Had some of our home grown peas with it. Was good.

The MCARC 2-meter Sunday Chat Net went well. Had eight check-ins tonight and pretty much everyone had a great signal. Readable, at least.

And that’s pretty much it. Watching the 2nd of the “Planet of the Apes” reboot. I like it, so far. The fight was inevitable, but I still hated to see it happen. (I know, It’s A Movie!)
