Wow. T-Shirt Wx Day Two

Of course, it wasn’t really t-shirt weather (but close. Very close.) until I got off my lazy fat ass and went for another load of gravel, came back and filled all the damned pot-holes in our driveway. Then it (suddenly and quite inexplicatilly) got to be rather comfortable t-shirt weather. Amazing what a bit of physical activity can do.

Of course, my OLD ass is dragging now. So much so that I was barely able to take the Dog for a walk around the back 40. But I did it and the Dog (still pooping off trail, Thank Goodness) really enjoyed it. Lot’s of work to do back there this coming summer. Downed trees to cut up. Path to clear. Bushes to trim. (I’ve always liked a trim bush.)

Of course, it being so nice outside, and me being unable to stay inside while it’s so nice outside, I got out and restacked that pile of cement blocks that I’ve been meaning to restack more out of the way than it has been. Phew. I still need to disassemble the last two raised bed gardens and move the blocks up near the house; but that can wait for another day.

Fish (sticks) & Chips (fries, Well, actually, bakes) for dinner cause I felt the need for lazy. And relatively quick. Container of jello for desert. Just waiting for SWMBO to get home and the MCARC 10-meter Tuesday Evening Chat Net to start. (If it does.)

Which it didn’t. The Tuesday & Wednesday night Nets are for shit anymore.

It’s bedtime.

Oh, Look! Another Dreary Monday!

The DIRT road to/from our house was icey when I went to the Post Office earlier. The DIRT road. Almost as slick as snot. Was fun driving on, but I wouldn’t want to make a habit of it. Parking lots at the Bank and the Post Office were slushy.

Really not a whole lot going on around here. Had a small bit of snow yesterday afternoon into early evening; but nothing stuck and it eventually just sprinkled. But, SWMBO made fried shrimp for dinner so I realy didn’t care what it was doing outside.

Got in a “reading” mood this past week so I re-read all three “Crystal Singer” books by McCaffrey. Enjoyed them all over again. Wondering what to delve into next. Re-read the complete Dragonrider series? Start back in with my favorite Clancey? Let Stephen King or Dean Koontz fill my evenings with weirdness? Back to the classic sci-fi authors: Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein, et al?

I get a daily e-mail from BookBub with their recommendations for books I might want to buy. All the blurbs read like something I’ve read and all the new “hero’s” are female. (Not that I find anything wrong with a good female hero; but all of them? Did the guys quit going into Space looking for trouble?) Ah well.

So, I need to get off my fat ass. Been sitting around too damned much even if I am retired. Four hours of X-Plane does not an active Old Guy make. Can’t force myself to walk on the treadmill; too damned boring. So I got down in the basement to straighten up for awhile and try to make plans for what I want to do down there. Wow, only took 30+ years but I finally got all my drill bits in one place! Dayam!

Problem is being stuck inside. I hate Winter. Purely hate it. If I was to win that $400 million Powerball I’m afraid I’d just follow summer around the world. Have much nicer weather to not get anything accomplished.

Anywho, it’s several (non-productive) hours later and I’m back from picking SWMBO up at the Ferry Landing. Managed to check in to a couple of new 2-meter Nets while out. Stopped at Micky D’s cause she was hungry. Just hunkering down for the night.

Hey! We Got About 3 Inches Of Snow!

More than we’ve gotten over the past 4-5 years added up. Cool! Started about 0930 this morning and it’s still going at 1545. It’s tapered off quite a lot in the past hour; but is still falling. Now, if it doesn’t start raining (which I expect it to) I may have to take SWMBO to the Ferry Landing in the morning. Good thing I have a 4wd truck!

And, so far, I’ve lost only one antenna wire. All of them are heavily coated with snow and hanging real low though. Especially the ladder line antenna. I should probably put my shoes on, go out, and thump them to clear them off. Probably.

Not much else going on. Pretty usual Sunday around here. Church let folks out early so SWMBO’s been home since about 1130. She made spaghetti for an early dinner. I’m “playing” on my computer and getting my usual Sunday Chores done. Trying to get Linux Mint to connect to my phone and tablet (but it really doesn’t want to).

Starting to snow harder and bigger flakes too. Cool. I really have lived up here too long if I’d rather snow than rain. And I’d rather snow than rain anytime. Except during the summer. And, it looks like I’ll be right as far as left-over snow is concerned. Just after dark what was falling was more rain than snow. Getting pretty slushy out there. We’ll see, of course.

The MCARC 2-meter Sunday Evening Chat Net went well. Everybody was coming in pretty well tonight. Signals must be bouncing off the snow or something.

Rain Got Mighty Thick This Afternoon

Ann FrancisBut it didn’t quite snow. You know, that kinda sorta maybe you saw the occasional snowflake mixed in the rain but you can’t really be sure without stepping outside and it’s just too crappy out to actually do that sort of look. Started up the Wx App and it had the overlay for snow just off my location extending South. Ah well. You know you’ve lived somewhere it rains way too much when you’d rather have snow.

Yesterday was our 29th Anniversary but we didn’t go out an do anything special since SWMBO doesn’t like to do anything that makes someone else work on Sunday. So we just celebrated at home. She made some kind of Shrimp stuff for dinner. And Orange Jell-O! What a woman!

The MCARC Sunday evening 2-meter Chat Net went well yesterday, but, we had only 4 of us check in. I think everyone that usually check in might have been out trying to get their last minute Christmas shopping done; or off to visit family.

Speaking of radio stuff: That JT-6188 I bought really sucks. Got a bunch of repeaters stored into memory, and it seems to scan, but it will not break the squelch when it encounters a signal. Nor will it continue to scan no matter which setting it’s on in the settings menu. Had it working once just right; but added a frequency or something cause it hasn’t worked since.  I was really hoping this thing wouldn’t be any freakier than the Boefeng/wouxun radio’s; but it is. Ah well. Live and play with things and learn. So I probably have a $100 boat anchor. I’ll probably keep playing with it though.

6774392875_1cdd444e1b_bDidn’t really do much of anything beyond my usual chores today. Think I’m coming down with a cold or something cause I just didn’t feel like getting  off my ass. Took a couple of micro-naps too. Tired all the time. Which could be a combination of my advancing age and Winter Weather (RAIN all the damned time) cause I do have that Seasonal Disorder Thingie (SIDS?). I’m just not like suicidal about it.

Got home from picking SWMBO up at the Ferry Landing and we sat and watched the last “Ice Age” movie. It be past my bedtime now so I’m gonna hit the rack.

Ain’t I exciting!
